The Silhouettes of Children’s Readings Advisors: A Cleric, A Minister, A General, and Others
Abstract
The article by O. A. Luchkina, “The Silhouettes of Children’s Readings Advisors: A Cleric, A Minister, A General, and Others” is dedicated to the history of the control over children’s readings. As a rule, children’s reading is placed under the control of adults, who in turn form institutions to govern this process. In the Russian Empire, the tradition of such control and management of children’s reading was formalized in the 1860s. In this article, the most prominent institutions of pre-revolutionary reader’s advisory and control are reviewed, among them the Holy Synod, the Ministry of National Education, the Ministry of Military Affairs, and the special Fourth Division of Imperial Chancery.
