Abstract

In the 1860-1880s Russian literature is consolidated in the minds of teachers as educational and educational material for children's reading. The article discusses the writers included in the literary canon for children, and the criteria on the basis of which they were selected. The material of the work was a quantitative calculation of more than four thousand (4018) references to writers in reviews, reviews, committee "approvals", lists and catalogs posted in pedagogical journals: "Journal of the Ministry of Public Education", "Pedagogical Collection", "Women's Education".
