Issue 28 of Children's Readings is devoted to the topic of children's literature in various media. We have attempted to overcome researchers' bias towards studying texts produced in print, because the history of children's literature in the 20th century (unlike, say, the 18th and 19th centuries) cannot be written solely on the basis of ‘paper’ books. Literary works for children were distributed in the form of film adaptations and various forms of animation and sound recordings, with video and audio versions often becoming the most popular way for audiences to get acquainted with Pinocchio, Winnie the Pooh, Alice Selezneva and other literary characters.
