The bibliography covers the most important Russian-language publications devoted to the history of the filmstrip, slide film, and the “magic lantern” as independent media. Sources and studies on the filmstrip are grouped separately. The Sources section covers the period 1893–2023. It includes historical essays on magic lantern readings, selected announcements and recommended lists of new Diafilm studio filmstrips for children, as well as newspaper articles about filmstrip distribution problems and the thematic monotony of filmstrips. The Studies section covers the period 1935–2025. It includes scholarly research on the artistic and substantive aspects of filmstrips. Catalogues and price lists of magic lanterns and their light pictures; manuals on magic lantern, filmstrip creation, and projection devices; Diafilm studio publishing plans; advertisements in children’s periodicals; published texts of magic-lantern readings; explanations of light pictures; and accompanying lectures for filmstrips and slide films are not included. Soviet-era dissertations and contemporary articles on teaching methods, pedagogy, military-patriotic education, museum and library science that are fully or partially devoted to the filmstrip are also not included.
