Swedish Children’s Literature Today

The essay gives a brief description of modern Swedish literature and book publishing for children. A.-M. Kerling, who for several years held the public post “Ambassador of Reading”, associated with the state program promoting
and supporting reading in Sweden, expresses her opinion on the tradition of Swedish children’s literature and the main directions of its further development, mentions various institutions (contests, awards, programs, etc.),
organizing the literary process and providing feedback to readers-children and their parents, reflects on the social and cultural role of reading and on popularization strategies readings among children and adolescents. The
author tells about children’s books that have received awards in recent years (books written by Jenny Egerfeld and Emma Adboge), notes the traditional and new problematic topics of children’s books (death of parents, poverty,
children’s rights, etc.), characterizes the artistic techniques used by their authors, briefly concerns the genres of modern children’s books (story, picture book, informative book).
