Abstract
The article examines the formation of ideas about the concept of "children's literature" in pedagogical criticism of the 19th century, traces the evolution of this concept, denotes the controversial nature of the term "children's literature." The principles of creating textbooks on children's literature in the second half of the 20th century are analyzed. The article examines their relationship with the concepts of the 19th century critics.
